A group of medical tourists from China checked into four medical institutions in Taiwan last Monday June 22. The tourists arrived in China last Sunday and were booked in an upscale spa resort.
The group was divided into the following hospitals: Cathay General Hospital, the Shin Kong Wu Ho Su Memorial Hospital, the Changhua Christian Hospital and the Kaohsiung Medical Hospital. The group is the first set of tourists to from China to visit Taiwan for medical reasons since the government allowed larger numbers of tourists to visit Taiwan.
The patients underwent health checkups ranging from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to computerized tomography (CT).
The patients who joined the group were enticed to travel to Taiwan because of the perceived higher quality of medical services in Taiwan than in mainland China. The medical program of Taiwan covers medical care, spa treatment and sightseeing. According the patients the medical facilities and services accorded to them were of the same level of quality as the facilities and services offered in Japan. The advantage of the medical institutions in Taiwan is that they offer the services at cheaper rates as compared to Japan.
