Last August 14, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated the George Dewey Medical and Wellness Center, a one-stop wellness center located at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The wellness center is the first of its kind in the Philippines. The one-stop wellness center features a 100-bed tertiary hospital. The facility is in a 12-hectare property on top of a hill. The facility is operated by the George Dewey Medical College. George Dewey Medical College is a five-year old nursing college. The president of the George Dewey Medical Collage said the wellness center is its response to the challenge posed by the Philippines’ neighboring countries for leadership in the Medical Tourism Industry. Aside from the hospital, the center also features a health resort for retirees.
The medical facility is located at Villa Amorosa inside the Subic Freeport. The center is designed to be a leader in the medical tourism industry in the Philippines and Asia. The center’s central location will gelo service the needs of residents of the following provinces: Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan Valley, Isabela, Ilocos, La Union, some parts of Bulacan and the Clark Economic Zone. Many of the center’s staff underwent training in the United States. Some of them are even considered as the best in their fields in the country.
The medical center will offer a wide-range of services from joint and hip replacement, reconstructive surgery, cardiac surgery, corneal transplant, dental implants, sleep disorder therapy and other specialized medical services.
Once the Center is fully-developed, it will feature groceries, a sports complex, a condominium, coffee shops, boutiques and other facilities.
