Lucknow in India now offers craniofacial surgery, a process in reconstructive surgery that involves reconstruction or contouring of the skull, face and jaws. It involves not just skin and tissue deformities but deformities in the bones as well.

Thailand recently launched the Health Travel Industry Research Society of Thailand or HTRIS. The group, a non-profit, private sector initiative, was established to benefit the international medical tourism society in the country.

Aside from International Medical Tourism, US citizens also have the option to receive cheaper treatments on US soil, just in a different state or city.

With the growing concern over more and more foreign patients traveling to the UK to pay for organs donated by dead British donors, there is a plan to ban all private organ transplants in the UK. Because of the scarcity of organ donors there was a need to assure the public that donated organs will be fairly allocated within the National Health System. The banning of the private transplants will help ensure that organ donations will go to those who need them the most and not only to those who had money to pay for them.

The Ten-minute Rhinoplasty

There is a procedure for rhinoplasty that will not require the patient to go under the knife. The non-surgical procedure takes only ten minutes, and the patient can leave the hospital as soon as the procedure is finished. The new non-surgical rhinoplasty only involves injections. First an anesthetic cream is used to numb the nose and then cosmetic fillers are injected into the nose to change its shape.

There are many benefits to the procedure. Aside from savings on time, patients also save on money because the cost of the procedure is only about 1/10 of the cost of a surgical rhinoplasty. There are also less side effects to this type of procedure. The period of recovery is also much shorter. A regular rhinoplasty requires six weeks of recovery period from the surgery.

The non-surgical procedure can help smoothen out bumps on the nose, improve symmetry and improve the nose over-all appearance. But this is not an appropriate procedure for those who want to make their nose smaller. The procedure can only change the shape of the nose but not its size.

The dermal fillers used are eliminated from the body through the body’s lymphatic system; this means that the results are not permanent. Top-up fillers need to be applied annually to maintain the new appearance of the nose.

The procedure is not entirely new as it has been used in Brazil in the last seven years. This procedure is now being offered in many cosmetic surgery clinics around the world but there are still surgeons who do not perform the procedure due to the lack of studies on the side-effects of long-term use of dermal fillers.
