The very first cochlear implant surgery procedure to be performed by a government hospital in Southeast Asia was recently performed at the Universitiy Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (PPUKM) in Malaysia. The surgery was performed on a 36-year old patient named Dewiseri Taib. Taib was partially deaf. The surgery is allows patients who are hearing-impaired to hear.

The National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) has purchased a Cytocare Robot from Health Robotics. The Cytocare Robot will be immediately installed in the hospital. This robot will be responsible for automating the preparation of IV Admixtures for Oncology at the hospital.

Last August 14, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated the George Dewey Medical and Wellness Center, a one-stop wellness center located at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The wellness center is the first of its kind in the Philippines. The one-stop wellness center features a 100-bed tertiary hospital.
