A hospital in India has successfully performed the Hybrid Norwood Procedure on a 7 day old baby  . The procedure was performed at the MIOT Hospital in Chennai on a baby that was suffering from ‘Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome’, a rare congenital heart disease. The condition has left the baby’s left side of the heart malformed. That part of the heart was also unproductive and was unable to pump sufficient oxygen-rich blood to the body. The aorta, the main artery to the heart was also underdeveloped. HLHS is fatal if no intervention is performed or if the intervention is not performed soon enough. The patient was referred to the MIOT hospital by a hospital in Calicut.
